Foodie News x Restaurant Reviews x Hip-Hop Attitude

In 2010, I (Nick Love) spent over 45% of my annual income eating out at some of Atlanta's best (and worst) restaurants. So, who better to guide you through the city's crowded dining terrain?? Now, I, along with my team of Hip-Hop generation foodies, will expose and review ATL's newest hits, hidden gems, and old favorites. Hopefully, this blog will earn us a free meal or two while we point you guys in the direction of some good food and steer you away from the wackness. Let's eat!!!

Review: FLIP BURGER BOUTIQUE | Summersaults On Your Tongue

Name: FLIP Burger Boutique

I got a lot of emails and texts from you guys last week about my review of HD1, the new "haute doggery" that just opened up recently off of Highland Ave .  Many of you loved how I kept it so real about my experience there.  But, many of you also had questions about the OTHER Richard Blais restaurant that I compared HD1 to - FLIP Burger Boutique.  Why does FLIP hit where HD1 misses??  Well, the answer is -  it just does.

Sitting about 3/4 of a mile west from the Howell Mill exit on I-75, FLIP epitomizes the new "sexy" that is the essence of ATL Bite Life in 2011. It's a simple concept (burgers) with a twist (exotic toppings and condiments) and an all white decor that's akin to what you'd find in one of Alex Gidewon's clubs.  It's modern, it's sleek, it's unassuming on the outside, kinda pretentious on the inside, but really good overall.

On my first visit, I was a little timid.  As I perused the menu and I noticed there were burgers with avocado, soy jellies, and curried pickles, I figured it'd be best to start with something simple.  My choice - a regular old turkey burger with American cheese (USA!!!  USA!!!  USA!!!) and a side of fries.  I chased it down with a ginger ale (even though they had a full bar). The service was prompt and professional.  There's also this GORGEOUS waitress there that has this Leona Lewis thing going for her that is. . . . (note to self: I need to stalk her later.  Lol).

Anyway, the food arrived to my table not too long after ordering it and it was great.  The plate presentation was nice and consistent with the overall ambiance of the place.  Then, I bit into my food.  WOW!!!  My burger was hot, juicy, and seasoned well.  The fries had a Checkers-ish quality but not so "fast foody" if that makes sense.  Everything was just solid across the board.  It kinda reminded me of my trip to Yeah Burger to a certain extent but FLIP's contemporary interior was a sharp contrast to the more casual Yeah down the road.

My only personal disappointments were the two milkshakes I ordered.  Yes, I ordered TWO.  Don't judge me!!!  I was curious.  Up first - the Krispy Kreme shake (for obvious reasons).  For those of you who don't know, I am a Krispy Kreme fanatic!!!  However, there's a reason that there is no picture of this shake in today's post.  It was horrible!!!  It was like they took a dozen glazed donuts and put them in a blender with a half gallon of whole milk.  The result -  a diabetic's nightmare with a nasty after taste.  Not the move at all!!!  I tossed that one.

My second shake was the Nutella + Burnt Marshmallows shake pictured above.  Honestly, this didn't even sound appealing to me.  But, on this particular day, the 6 or 7 tables around me ALL had this shake (no exaggeration).  I figured it must be good if EVERYONE has it, right??  WRONG!!!  The chocolate was extremely rich and the burnt marshmallows just weren't for me.  *Kanye shrug*  I gave up after that one.  I tried though.

Overall, I definitely recommend FLIP Burger.  I've been back several times since that first visit and have NEVER had a bad experience.  I've even tried most of the burgers that I thought were so "weird" at first.  Some were an acquired taste but all were tasty.  In comparison to HD1, I just think that many of those odd toppings or condiments seem to work BETTER on a beef (or turkey) patty than they do on a hot dog. What else can I say??  But, maybe it's me.

The next time you're near Howell Mill Rd, stop by FLIP and give it a try.  Tell 'em ATL Bite Life sent you.

International Foods - HELP ME!!!

Guys, there's still one food aspect that I'm trying to get some help on - FOREIGN FOODS.  Even after years of consuming food and beverages from numerous restaurants around the city, with the exception of Chinese, Italian, Mexican, and Caribbean food, my knowledge of food from other cultures is kinda shabby.  I've purposely stayed away from most of it because, honestly, I thought much of it was nasty.  Maybe it's a hood mentality.  I have lots and lots of friends who all have disdain for plenty of random things that they've never experienced.  But now, I want to try more stuff.

Do any of you have a favorite Ethiopian, Brazilian, Japanese, or European cuisine or restaurant that you think I should try??  Put me on to something new!!!

The Great Debate: Breakfast / Brunch

Like we always do about this time. . .

I wanna hear from you guys.  Simple question - Who has the best breakfast/brunch in the A??  I don't wanna hear about IHOP or Dennys.  I want to know about the tuck spots on your side of town.  I wanna hear about the big restaurants who go for what they know on Saturday or Sunday.

Personally, I'm kinda partial to this spot on the eastside off of Covington Hwy called Demetris.  My big bro, Block, put me on to that.  It's delicious (and cheap)!!!  I wish they had a website or something cuz I'd definitely send ya'll there.  My boy Ray "Hitch" Daniels is a big fan of Highland Bakery.  He's also trying to get us over there.  Big Cat has mentioned West Egg to me on more than one occasion.  And, everyone in the hood is a fan of Thumbs Up.  So much to choose from.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I wanna know who gets it in.  Leave a comment here on the blog or hit me on my Facebook page or on my Twitter page.

Review: HD1 | Bad Dog!!!

Name: HD1

Address: 664 N. Highland Ave. NE Atlanta, GA 30306

What to say, what to say.  After yesterday's "situation" with LeRoy's Fried Chicken, I figured we might as well keep the ball rolling.  If I go ahead and get the negative reviews out the way, I can deal with the harsh feedback and critiques all at once.  So, this brings us to HD1.

(Prawn Dogs, Shrimp Fried in Grits)

After seeing an ad for HD1 on Scoutmob, I tried for 2 weeks to work a quick visit into my schedule.  I was beyond excited to sample the latest Richard Blais creation.  For those of you not familiar with Blais, he is the celebrity chef mastermind behind FLIP Burger Boutique (which I happen to love).  Billed as a "haute doggery", the place was pretty much what I anticipated - fancy hot dogs with a contemporary, boutique-style dining experience.  Essentially, FLIP with wieners instead of beef and turkey burgers.  But, what I didn't anticipate was the "ehh" feeling I got after I sat down and ate.

(Red Haute Dog)

Now, keep in mind, I visited HD1 on TWO occasions within a week of one another.  My first visit was very underwhelming.  First, the building kinda sneaks up on you once you turn off of Ponce and onto Highland Ave.  The building sits almost right behind the Urban Outfitters plaza and it only has about 6 or 7 parking spaces.  So, before you know it, you're there and passing it.  Second, I'm not sure what happened that morning but I was one of the first customers in that day and the whole place had a wood chip scent very similar to one of those hamster cages you'd find a pet store.  I wasn't sure if that was supposed to be "new restaurant" smell or if that was the chili being prepared but it was quite the turnoff.

(Reuben Dog)

Then, I get a gander at the menu.  I wasn't too startled.  I expected to see a few oddities.  I knew Blair wouldn't stick to just ketchup, mustard, and sauerkraut.  So, I took a few calculated risk.  I started off with the Prawn Dogs, Shrimp Fried in Grits (pic above) as an appetizer.  Then, for my main course, I ordered a Red Haute Dog (fancy chili dog) and, at the suggestion of my waitress, a Reuben Dog (basically a Reuben sandwich with a beef frank instead of corned beef (both pics above).  Finally, for good measure, I threw in some good ole' Waffled Fries w/ Maple Oy.

(Waffled Fries w/ Maple Oy)

Well, I loved the fries!!!  But, that's pretty much where it stops.  The Prawn Dogs were okay.  I didn't really get it.  It was basically fried shrimp on a stick.  The whole thing of being "fried in grits" didn't really come thru.  Even though I did detect a hint of a texture difference, honestly, it could've just been corn meal.  Then, the hot dogs. . . . I'll say this, maybe my taste palate just isn't sophisticated enough to appreciate what HD1 was going for.  But, then again, I really think that much of what they did with the gourmet ketchups, cheese foams, and other toppings on the hot dogs just would've been better suited for a hamburger.  The flavors and nuances of my choices just didn't flow together on that bun.  Maybe some things are better left alone OR at least left simple.

(Banana Ice Cream w/ Caramelized Rum)

The one saving grace of my meal other than the fries (which really were great) was the soft serve ice cream I had for dessert.  The Banana Ice Cream with Caramelized Rum was INCREDIBLE!!!  Hands down, one of the best things I've ever tasted.  It probably deserves its' own separate blog.  It was creamy and sweet with just the right amount of caramelized rum sauce as to not overpower the flavor of the ice cream.  It was probably PERFECT.

Here's the crazy and disappointing part though.  I went back a week later to get another serving of this ice cream and guess what. . .  THEY DON'T HAVE IT ANYMORE!!!  I wish I had one of those Blackberry Messenger red, angry face emoticons to put here.  You should've seen the way I looked at that hostess.  Lol.  What did they replace with you ask??  Answer - Whoppers candy soft serve.  I'm done!!!  But, that smell was gone so I'm gonna chalk that up to a fluke one day thing.  No worries.

To sum this all up, I love Richard Blais, I love FLIP Burger Boutique, I'm not at all crazy about HD1.  I do recommend it for those who are just curious and want to see how far someone could stretch the limits of an Oscar Mayer.  Other than that, stop at Sonics and grab a Chicago Dog.  Tell 'em I sent you.

Review: LEROY'S FRIED CHICKEN | It's Missing Some Herbs & Spices

Name: LeRoy's Fried Chicken

This review pains me because I had the opportunity to meet Chef Julia LeRoy and her staff personally during the filming of our ATL Bite Life Show.  She was sooooooo sweet, her story was so compelling, and her staff was extremely cooperative.  I REALLY wanted to like the food.  I REALLY wanted to brag to all my folks that I'd found this incredible new chicken spot downtown that everyone else wasn't up on yet.  I REALLY REALLY did.  But, unfortunately, I really really can't.

Let me set the scene.  By sheer chance, we ended up selecting my main man, comedian Henry Welch, to come eat with us here at LeRoy's for this particular episode.  So, you can just imagine the pre-dining jokes.  First, Chef Julia is a cute, early to mid 30's white woman so skepticism was HIGH that this chicken wasn't gonna be seasoned right.  Second, one glance at the menu and you will see that the prices are slightly high for some chicken (as opposed to its KFC and Popeyes counterparts).  A 2-piece chicken is $5.95 (chicken only) then the sides are $2.95 a piece.  So, a combo with 2 sides could easily run you $12 WITHOUT a drink.  Smh.  Third, the ONLY thing on the menu is CHICKEN and chicken-based dishes like chicken salad, chicken livers, etc.  So, other than the side items, there are no burgers, sandwiches, etc to fall back on just in case you don't like or just get tired of the chicken (keep in mind that the menu isn't very extensive to begin with).  That brings us to the sides.  If the skepticism about the chicken was high, the doubt about the collard greens, mac & cheese, etc were not too far behind.  We wondered - Would the greens be dry??  Would the mac & cheese be cheesy??  AND, to top it all off, the chicken is fried in LARD!!!  While most of us from the hood are familiar with lard, not too many of us are currently using/eating it in 2011.  We were jokingly overwhelmed.  All the ingredients of disappointment were laid out on the counter like salt and pepper.  But, would we be let down??

YES.  Me and Henry both ordered the 3 piece chicken w/ a side of collard greens and mac & cheese and a biscuit.  While the biscuit was probably one of the best biscuits I've ever eaten, everything else was blah.  The chicken was in serious need of some Lawry's Seasoning Salt.  Even the Texas Pete hot sauce we lathered our chicken in didn't help it much.  The collards weren't seasoned well (but they were juicy) and the mac and cheese was mediocre too.  The food had a very cafeteria-ish quality to it.  I was sooooooo blowed!!!  The worst part was that I had to sit there with Henry and my camera crew giving me the "I told you so" face.  They were relentless!!!

There were a few pluses.  The service was fast and courteous.  And, the walk up counter service kinda gives you a Happy Days feel.  Although, I wonder how this will play once the weather cools down in Atlanta.  Not too many people will want to sit OUTSIDE and eat bad chicken.  The location isn't bad either.  It's directly across the street from Chow Baby on Howell Mill Rd.  It's right down the street from Compound nigh club and Yeah! Burger.  And, it's right next door to the Mexican spot La Fonda that seems to be fairly busy any time I pass by.

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.  Try the biscuits.  They were great!!!

Taste of Atlanta 2011 Recap

I'm not gonna waste your time with a whole lot of words today.  If you missed this year's Taste of Atlanta, you didn't miss WORDS, you missed FOOD!!!  LOTS AND LOTS OF IT!!!   And you were probably the only one who did.  Check out the picture I snapped above.  Midtown was jam packed this weekend.

Check out the pics I snapped below.  I would've taken more but I found myself digging into the food before I thought about it.  Some of the highlights - the barbecue spare ribs from Jim N Nicks, the sweet potato pancakes and the mini cupcakes from Highland Bakery, the bread pudding from Gordon Biersch, the pound cake from Melting Pot, the crawfish and shrimp etoufee from Sweet Georgia's Juke Joint, and the fried oyster po boy from Serpas.  There was a lot of good food there but those were the ones that stood out to me.

Oh, and I can't get forget about the VIP tent!!!  They had FREE BEER, WINE, and COCKTAILS!!!  I got a picture of the tent below BEFORE I started drinking and then. . . .  Lol.  There was this one drink that had this Michael Collins Whiskey that was INCREDIBLE!!!  I can't say enough about it!!!

I was still baffled by the long line at Ri Ra.  I told ya'll how I felt about the fish & chips they let us sample during the Sneak Peek.  I'll just chalk that up to people not knowing.  And, I was even more confused by the line at the Waffle House booth.  I mean, WAFFLE HOUSE??  Come on, guys!!!  I'll chalk that up to people being from out of town.  Smh.

Either way, check out the pics below.

See ya next year!!!

The Great Debate: Sandwiches

Ok, kids, wkhat time is it??  That's right!!!  Great Debate time!!!  This the game where you tell me who makes the best _______ and I tell you how smart you are.  Everyone's a winner!!!

Today's food - the almighty SANDWICH.  I've passed a lot of sandwich places over the past few weeks but I can't think of any place that puts meat between two pieces of bread like Publix Supermarkets.  They have the best sub sandwiches around.  If you can think of something better, tell me.  And please don't even think of mentioning Subway.  I mean, come on.  They don't come close.

I really wanna know about the local spots though.  I've asked around and there are A LOT of good places around town that I've yet to visit.  I just had the chicken cuban sandwich from Papi's on Ponce and it was great!!!  What am I missing out on??

I spotted a few cool sandwich spots on Foodie Buddah.  Check these out:

Alon’s Bakery, Carolyn’s Deli, Victory Sandwich Bar, Patrick’s Sub Shop, & The Mercantile.  Click on their sites.  ALL of these places look good!!!

Happy Day @ Cloud IX (Every Tuesday)

Happy Day at Cloud IX!!!  I've been meaning to hip you guys to this for quite some time but it always slips my mind when I'm writing my posts for the week.  However, it rarely slips my mind to make it over to there to grab lunch or dinner.  Every time I bite into those fried green tomatoes or those tilapia fingers, I say to myself, "Self, you should really put your ATL Bite Life fam on to this incredible food at these incredible prices".  Then, I take another bite and I forget about all about you.  Smh.  What can you do??  *shoulder shrug*

It's not my fault.  If you've ever had the food here, you already know what it is.  If not, let me school you.  Cloud IX sits at 177 Peters St right in the Castleberry District.  It's a Caribbean/soul food hybrid on the far end of Peters closest to Spring St away from the Slice/255/Baltimore Seafood cluster of restaurants.  EVERY TUESDAY, they run a Happy Hour-type special where all the appetizers, cocktails, and martinis on the menu are HALF PRICE ALL DAY LONG!!!  Trying to describe their food and drinks with mere words just doesn't do them justice.  It's something your tongue really needs to personally experience to fully appreciate.  And, getting them with a 50% discount is like hitting the food lottery.

I highly recommend pretty much everything!!!  The Heavenly Wings are pretty popular.  My personal choice of late has been the Crab Fritters and/or the Fish Fingers.  If you get an appetizer or two to go along with some of their delicious side items (which are always $3), you could end up with a complete meal that is really filling and extremely tasty for around $10.  Beat that!!!  And don't forget about the drinks.  I think the ladies will really appreciate the martinis they serve. They may be a little too pretty for the guys but I say "swallow your pride and order yourself a fruity drink".  Lol

Today is Tuesday so you know where you need to be this evening.  Make sure you ask for Rasheeda to be your waitress/bartender when you get there.  She's the best!!!  Tell her I sent you.  Tip well!!!

I may be there with the cameras today so say hello if you fall thru.

Happy Eating!!!

Review: YEAH! BURGER | Awww Yeah!!!

Name: YEAH! Burger
Cuisine: Burgers / Sandwiches
Neighborhood: Midtown
Address: 1168 Howell Mill Rd. Ste E Atlanta, GA 30318 (between 13th & 14th St)
Phone Number: (404) 963-2384

On a fairly warm Sunday afternoon in ATL back in April, me and video/film director @WatchUNN decided to detour from our original recording studio destination and make a pit stop at one of Atlanta's hottest bun and patty spots - YEAH! Burger.  At that time, I'd traveled past that spot numerous times but knew next to nothing about it.  However, I had heard good things from @MachDigital and @ImJustKeish about the food and my companion on this day seemed pretty confident that I'd be happy with this place.  Boy, was he right!!!

The line was literally out the door when we approached the building.  I was put off by that initially because I just don't believe in waiting in long lines for a BURGER.  But, once I saw the menu, I began to understand the appeal and popularity of this place.  From the choice of patty (beef, bison, turkey, veggie, and chicken breast), bread (white, wheat, or gluten-free), plus a number of cheeses, toppings, and sauces, this place lets you customize the perfect burger for YOU.  I ordered the Turkey Burger on a Whole Wheat bun w/ American cheese, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, mayo, and Yeah! Sauce (which I'm pretty sure is nothing more than 1000 Island Dressing).  Instead of french fries, I ordered the side Caesar salad.  Finally, I decided to wash it all down with the Peach Mango Organic Black Tea.

The service was fairly prompt.  Even with the restaurant being busy, we didn't wait too long for our food.  Then, the plate presentation was nice.  My burger was brought out with a huge toothpick stuck through it a la grocery store sample style.  Personally, I thought it was little hokey but I'm sure someone else would see that as clever.  But, that toothpick didn't take anything away from the taste.  My turkey burger was GREAT!!!  It was seasoned perfectly and extremely juicy.  The "Yeah! Sauce/1000 Island" added a really nice touch too.  I can't forget to mention that the side Caesar and black tea were excellent compliments.

Like most of the newer eateries around town, the downsides of this place were the parking and seating.  There seems to be a trend in Atlanta to build a restaurant with only 4 available parking spaces and then forcing the customers to park elsewhere.  YEAH! is no different.  The parking deck in the rear isn't too inconvenient though.  And, there are a few 20 minute To Go parking spaces around the building (if you wanna take your chances).  As far as seating, you can't sit down until AFTER you order.  On a busy day, like the day that we were there, you could end up standing up if someone isn't leaving out at the same time.  We ended up being okay but on a warm Atlanta afternoon, I'm SURE that could be a huge inconvenience for someone.

Overall, I was very impressed and I will definitely be back.

Taste of Roswell (Oct 15, 2011)

Jazzoo isn't the only thing going on this weekend.  On Saturday, the city of Roswell will be taking its' crack at a "Taste" festival.  Personally, I think these smaller cities surrounding Atlanta should leave this to the capital city (with the exception of maybe Buckhead, Virginia-Highlands, and Midtown).  But, what do I know??

They have quite a few restaurants participating including Barkers Red Hots, Flying Biscuit, and my new favorite steak spot Stoney River.  So, if you're gonna be in the Roswell area, make your way on down to the Historic Town Square from Noon - 5:30pm.

Jazzoo 2011 (Oct 15, 2011)

This Saturday night, there's a cool little event going on over at Zoo Atlanta called Jazzoo that has my name written all over it.  Clearly I've been living under a rock for the past few years because, according to the site, this is the FOURTH Annual event of this type.  Go figure.  I was actually gonna pass on covering this event but I remembered someone mentioning it the other night during the Taste of Atlanta Sneak Peek and then I heard Jeff Dauler talking about it yesterday morning on The Bert Show on Q100.  So, I did a little digging and OH YEAH, I need to be up thru here!!!

Conceived by Vantage Realty Partners as a fundraiser, this event aims to give 100% of the proceeds to Zoo Atlanta and their programs that provide free admission to under served populations and field trips to Title 1 schools.  For $100, you get an all inclusive pass and access to over 30 of Atlanta's best restaurants and 20 OPEN BARS!!!  Yeah, I know, it's a little pricey considering the times BUT it is for a good cause.  And, to be able to eat from 30 different spots AND drink from 20 different open bars, that's actually not a bad deal.

So, let's see.  Good cause??  Check.  Good food??  Check.  Drinks??  Check.  What more could you ask for??

A Sneak Peek of Taste of Atlanta 2011

Last night, the good people over at Taste of Atlanta treated me and some of Atlanta's most popular food bloggers to a sneak peek of what this year's festival (Oct 22-23) has to offer.  In short, it was wonderful!!!  So much more organized, professional, and stress free than ANYTHING I've EVER dealt with in the music business!!!  Thank God for food!!!

2 things I learned last night - First, I need some business cards (I didn't know people still used those things).  Everyone had one except for me.  Smh.  Second, there are still so many restaurants that I have not been to in this city.  We hit a total of 4 spots, none of which I was very familiar with, and I got the inside scoop on what these restaurants will be showcasing at the 2011 TOA.  Check it out.

1JCT Kitchen (1198 Howell Mill Rd. Suite 18).  This place sits right in the Star Provisions area in West Midtown which encompasses Bacchanalia, Osteria de Figo, and my favorite taco spot Taqueria Del Sol,  I'd wandered over here a couple times before while waiting on Taqueria to open for dinner but I'd never sat down to eat.  That will change!!!  After munching on the fried bananas (fantastic), pork bellies (interesting taste) and then sipping on the JCTea (absolutely great) and the Scarecrow (a seasonal drink w/ pumpkin spice that was waaaaaaay too strong for me), I'm sure I'll be returning on my own time.  I definitely recommend this spot.

2Ri Ra (1080 Peachtree St NE, Suite 1).  Once again, another spot that I've come across numerous times on my nights out on the town.  The address says Peachtree St but this Irish Pub sits on the corner of Crescent Ave and 12th St. diagonal from Luxe Lounge on the same side of the street as Opera night club.  I was definitely excited to try this place out.  Unfortunately, it was a bit of a disappointment.  The fish & chips, which we were told would be featured at Ri Ra's TOA booth, had absolutely ZERO seasoning.  No amount of malt vinegar, tartar sauce, or remoulade sauce could save it.  I truly hope they rethink that choice of dish to represent their establishment because it really left a NO TASTE in my mouth.  Lol.  On the flip side, at the suggestion of Rachel from Metromix, I tried a Terrapin beer called Hopsecutioner.  Even though I'm not a big beer drinker, I definitely enjoyed this.  THAT is what they need to bring to the Taste.

3. Tuk Tuk (1745 Peachtree St, upstairs in the Kroger plaza).  Tuk Tuk occupies the space that was once known as Taurus - a very beautiful restaurant that was well known for having notoriously bad food.  Today, it's still a beautiful restaurant but their delicious Thai cuisine went a long way in helping me erase some of those terrible Taurus memories.  If they decide to bring all the food that we sampled last night to Taste of Atlanta, Tuk Tuk could possibly end up being the MVP of the weekend.  We tasted Thai Samosa (vegetable-filled paper pockets), Satay Kai (chicken w/ peanut sauce), Mieng Kum (lime, ginger, peanuts, and onions wrapped in spinach), & Neau Sawan (Thai beef jerky).  That Mieng Kum was probably one of the worst things I've EVER tasted but the other dishes were extremely tasty!!!  I can't wait to eat more of that at TOA.  The highlight of Tuk Tuk was the drink they served - the Lychee Mojito.  I purposely didn't include a picture of it because that drink will be getting its' own post on ATL Bite Life very soon.  : )

4. Barrelhouse (22 5th St).  This was the last stop and probably the best stop of the evening.  We walked in and the service was great.  The waitress was very attentive and detailed about everything they brought out to us.  The highlights - the fruit cup cocktail (vodka, soda water, pineapples, cherries, and strawberries) AND the short rib sandwich.  THIS SANDWICH WAS INCREDIBLE!!!  The meat was perfectly seasoned, superbly tender, extremely juicy and the bun it was on complimented it all.  Then, to top it off, they brought us out some banana pudding.  I was sold!!!  I will definitely be returning to Barrelhouse.  It might even be this week.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my sneak peek into TOA.  According to Dale (our tour guide for the evening and TOA executive), there will be over 80 restaurants participating in this year's event.  If the other 76+ spots are anything like the ones we went to tonight, we are all in for a real treat!!!

Click on the pictures above to check out the restaurant websites along with their Twitter and Facebook pages.  I think you guys will really enjoy their food.  And, I know for sure that you're gonna enjoy Taste of Atlanta.  If you have not bought your tickets yet, click here to get 'er done.

Happy Eating!!!
