Over this past weekend, I made my way over to Piedmont Park to check out the 2nd Annual Atlanta Ice Cream Festival. While I wasn't overly impressed with the Festival as a whole, one story and product really stood out to me - Jackie's Ice Cream.
Created by the Hayes sisters - Jackie, Julie, and Jewelle, these Atlanta-based siblings are looking to make their mark in your local grocer's freezer aisle. I first heard about them from the Festival's organizer. When he told me about an African-American ice cream company, my interest was instantly piqued. Some young black people making ice cream?? I ain't heard of that (Slim Thug voice). So, when I saw the sign above, I decided to stand in line. On a day where they offered about 9 total flavors, my taste buds led me to the Strawberry Short Cake. With real pieces of cake, and a creamy base, it was definitely impressive. I wanted to go back and try the Banana Pudding ice cream (one of their specialty flavors) but at $4 a cup, I decided to psyche myself into being satisfied. Lol.
Over the next few weeks, I plan on trying to sit down with these ladies to get an in-depth interview about their endeavor and see if me and maybe a couple of my lucky readers can go by and sample ALL the flavors. Who wants to join me??
