Foodie News x Restaurant Reviews x Hip-Hop Attitude

In 2010, I (Nick Love) spent over 45% of my annual income eating out at some of Atlanta's best (and worst) restaurants. So, who better to guide you through the city's crowded dining terrain?? Now, I, along with my team of Hip-Hop generation foodies, will expose and review ATL's newest hits, hidden gems, and old favorites. Hopefully, this blog will earn us a free meal or two while we point you guys in the direction of some good food and steer you away from the wackness. Let's eat!!!

The ATL Bite Life Krispy Kreme Glazed Doughnut Eating Challenge | May 12, 2012

Fresh off of our LADIES ONLY Crab Legs Eating Competition, we are not letting up.  On Saturday, May 12th, ATL Bite Life will be taking over the downtown Atlanta Krispy Kreme location on Ponce de Leon Avenue for our Krispy Kreme Glazed Doughnut Eating Challenge.  This event will be open to MEN & WOMEN ages 16 and up!!!  If you think you've got the gastrocular fortitude (that might not be a word) to down the most original glazed doughnuts in under 10 minutes, you're gonna walk (or crawl) away with our Grand Prize.

We'll be releasing more details over the coming weeks so make sure you come back here everyday so you don't miss anything.  Tell a friend to tell a friend.

As always, Happy Eating!!!

VIDEO: The ATL Bite Life x Heineken LADIES ONLY Crab Legs Eating Competition

We came, we saw, we conquered!!!  In our very first live event, we, along with the good people at Heineken, shut down the Cajun Crab House for our LADIES ONLY Crab Legs Eating Competition.  It was fast, it was furious, it was entertaining, and it was hilarious!!!  If you missed it, you should go squeeze your pinky toe with one of those crab cracker things.  Lol

With $250 up for grabs, we put 10 minutes on the clock and 6 pounds of crab legs in front of our 9 contestants.  The winner would be determined by either who finished their crab legs first OR who could eat the most before time expired.  After all the carnage was cleared and the hot melted better was dried, we crowned our winner - With 5 lbs and 8 ounces downed, our girl Mo took home the grand prize.

It wasn't without controversy though.  There was another contestant who was on Mo's neck the entire competition.  We were forced to weigh the crab legs that were left to properly determine our champion.  The actual margin of victory was just under 3 ounces.  WOW!!!

Anyway, peep the video below.  The footage will tell you everything you need to know.

Extra special thanks to Cajun Crab House, Heineken, our DJ - Ian Ford, and our host - Sean Simmons.

As always, Happy Eating!

The LADIES ONLY Crab Legs Eating Competition | March 31, 2012

Ok, let's go!!!  We've been teasing it for about a month now but it's time to get to it!!!  LADIES, this one is for you!!!  On March 31st, ATL Bite Life along with our sponsor HEINEKEN, will be taking over Cajun Crab House on Butner Rd (off of Camp Creek Pkwy) from 4-7pm for our very first competitive eating contest!!!

We're offering a $250 CASH PRIZE for the woman who can crack open the most crab legs and down them within 10 minutes.  Easy, right??  So many of you ladies have been hitting us on Twitter talking big stuff about how these other girls don't stand a chance.  Well, it's put up or shut up time now!!!  But you gotta be in it to win it.  It costs $10 to enter the competition and we're only allowing a maximum of 12 contestants (first come, first serve).  So I suggest you get there early to claim your spot in the contest.

For everyone else who just wants to come by and check out the competition or for you lightweights who can only eat a normal serving of crab legs, Cajun Crab House is offering a special of 2 CLUSTERS OF CRAB LEGS +  A SIDE OF CORN for $6.99!!!  That's in addition to our Heineken specials that will be going on for the duration of the event.

Three will be a DJ on deck for the event and special appearances from some of your favorite guests from The ATL Bite Life Show.  A portion of the proceeds from the event will be going to Hosea Feed The Hungry.  So you can actually be a glutton for a good cause.  What's better than that??

Tell a friend to tell a friend.  THE ATL BITE LIFE LADIES ONLY CRAB LEGS EATING COMPETITION IS GOING DOWN SATURDAY, MARCH 31ST FROM 4-7PM!!!

BGR Bringing 15-Pound Mega Burger to Atlantic Station This Summer!!!

ATTENTION BURGER LOVERS: There will soon be a new kid on the burger playground and this kid is lean and mean!!!  As reported first by Midtown Patch via What Now Atlanta, a place called BGR: The Burger Joint is expected to open at Atlantic Station early this summer and will be located in the space that Doc Greens used to occupy.  Kinda ironic that we'd replace a SALAD place with a BURGER joint, don't you think?

I took it upon myself to check out their website to see what they have to offer in this already fairly crowded burger landscape.  Not bad, I must say.  According to the site, their burgers are made from hormone free grain-fed beef served on freshly baked brioche buns.  And, if beef isn’t your thing, they also serve turkey, lamb, tuna, & lobster burgers.  All great options.  Finally, if you’re bout that vegetarian life, they of course offer a traditional veggie burger.  Other menu items include asparagus fries, sweet potato fries and various milk shakes.

But, here's where it gets really interesting.  On the menu, they have a burger affectionately known as "The 9 Pounder" (it actually weighs in at 15.4 lbs including bun, toppings, and condiments). It's been featured on Food Network, Travel Channel and some official I.F.O.C. competitive eating contests.  This glutton sandwich that normally feeds 10-15 people is priced at a whopping $80!!!  However, some of you wannabe Man vs Food-ers could possibly get it for FREE if you can eat the entire burger in one sitting.  It says on the menu that they even throw in a free bottle of Maalox with the sandwich.  Lol.  I’m sure you'll need it.  Might wanna throw in an ambulance and a quadruple bypass too.  Smh.

I know Nick has been looking to flex his competitive eating muscles lately so maybe we can talk him into trying it.

Happy Eating!!!

What Food Could You Competitively Eat??

I came across this picture late last night and it prompted me to hit the net, do some research, and write this post.  My question to you is - Is there a food that you think you could competitively eat??

When I saw the pic above of former world hot dog eating champion Kobayashi, I started looking for competitive eating contests in Atlanta.  I found a calendar with the remaining eating contests for 2011 and there's only ONE in ATL - Noodles (Oct 16).

Now, there are a lot of foods that I love to eat but there are very few that I think I could scarf down under a time restraint.  I made a list though that I think I could give anyone a run on though.
  • Fried Shrimp
  • Lemon Pepper Wings
  • Saltine Crackers
  • Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips
  • Peach Cobbler
Who want it with me??
