Castleberry Gets a New "SPIN" on Pizza
It's pretty well known that some of you Peters St/Castleberry neighborhood regulars are still feeling some kinda way about the closing of Slice aka Black Hollywood's favorite pizza joint. And, even with it being reborn on Huff Rd as Westside Pie, that void is somehow still there. But, instead of telling you guys to get over it already, I’m delighted to share the news about the opening of Spin.
According to our friends over at Thrillist, the space that once housed Slice has been taken over by its' former neighbors at 255 and transformed into what they're calling a "neoclassical pizzeria". Basically, Spin is going to be a more sophisticated, upscale version of its' predecessor complete with a mural of our city’s skyline and an atmosphere filled with warm shades of brown. From the looks of the pic being released, it screams grown and sexy.

And let's not leave out the fact that one of our newest comrades, the beer guru himself - Ale Sharpton - was brought in to personally select the beer options available at Spin. So, you know they’re gonna have the best of the best. We can't wait to try it out!!!
Contact 255 Tapas Lounge for more info on the opening of Spin. From what we hear, it looks like it may be next Wednesday or Thursday (March 28 or 29). Whatever day it is, we'll probably be there. So, you'll hear about it on our tweets or see some pics on our Facebook.
Until next time, Happy Eating!

Urban Vines Wine Company | Liquid Gold on a Golden Day Event
| Chef India Ramos and Rachelle Lovett (photo by Zachary Toth) |
Chef and Winemaker India Ramos, along with her business partner Rachelle Lovett, are collectively known as Urban Vines Wine Company. For those of you that may not be familiar with Urban Vines, these young, professional, sophisticated ladies specialize in wine making, custom wine blending, and wine education. They also allow for CUSTOM LABELING for the wine. How cute is that?
So, I make my way up to the rooftop lounge of Castleberry Pointe and the ambiance was so nice. Really classy! Upon entering, I was given a tasting card detailing the wine tasting options of the night. Chardonnay, White Zinfandel, and Moscato were all on the list. But, my favorite of the night had to be the Blackberry Merlot. There was a slight sweetness that didn’t over take the acidic nature of the red wine. Perfect!
The small bites tasting began with a Nectarine Salad w/ nectarine vinaigrette dressing. I love the idea of fruit in salad so for me it was a hit. Following the salad, there was a delicious chicken soup. To me, this was a slightly odd dish to serve at such an upscale event but it was DELICIOUS!!! It tasted like somebody’s mom spent all day preparing it. However, my favorite dish of the night was the Crab Cakes served over sautéed veggies. The pairing of the lump crab meat and mixed vegetables was as appealing to the tongue as it was to the eyes. WONDERFUL!!!
Then, for the grand finale, there was a mini tower of decadent chocolate & caramel cupcakes. A great send off for the evening. I definitely had my fill.

Overall, it was a wonderful night filled with delicious food and fabulous wine. Looking back, I wish that they had given attendees more of an opportunity to learn about their wine (which is what I was expecting). But, a nice social event is never bad. It at least gave me a desire to inquire further on my own time. Oh well. I'm sure they'll have other events coming up that will be just as fun and possibly more informative.
Make sure you check out Urban Vines online at www.urbanvineswc.com.

Happy Day @ Cloud IX (Every Tuesday)
Happy Day at Cloud IX!!! I've been meaning to hip you guys to this for quite some time but it always slips my mind when I'm writing my posts for the week. However, it rarely slips my mind to make it over to there to grab lunch or dinner. Every time I bite into those fried green tomatoes or those tilapia fingers, I say to myself, "Self, you should really put your ATL Bite Life fam on to this incredible food at these incredible prices". Then, I take another bite and I forget about all about you. Smh. What can you do?? *shoulder shrug*
It's not my fault. If you've ever had the food here, you already know what it is. If not, let me school you. Cloud IX sits at 177 Peters St right in the Castleberry District. It's a Caribbean/soul food hybrid on the far end of Peters closest to Spring St away from the Slice/255/Baltimore Seafood cluster of restaurants. EVERY TUESDAY, they run a Happy Hour-type special where all the appetizers, cocktails, and martinis on the menu are HALF PRICE ALL DAY LONG!!! Trying to describe their food and drinks with mere words just doesn't do them justice. It's something your tongue really needs to personally experience to fully appreciate. And, getting them with a 50% discount is like hitting the food lottery.
I highly recommend pretty much everything!!! The Heavenly Wings are pretty popular. My personal choice of late has been the Crab Fritters and/or the Fish Fingers. If you get an appetizer or two to go along with some of their delicious side items (which are always $3), you could end up with a complete meal that is really filling and extremely tasty for around $10. Beat that!!! And don't forget about the drinks. I think the ladies will really appreciate the martinis they serve. They may be a little too pretty for the guys but I say "swallow your pride and order yourself a fruity drink". Lol
Today is Tuesday so you know where you need to be this evening. Make sure you ask for Rasheeda to be your waitress/bartender when you get there. She's the best!!! Tell her I sent you. Tip well!!!
I may be there with the cameras today so say hello if you fall thru.
Happy Eating!!!

Creative Loafing Drink Week (May 19-25, 2011)
Click here to get more info on this year's Creative Loafing Drink Week. Gotta have something to wash all this great food in ATL down with, right??
While we're on the subject on drinks, who do you think makes the best drinks in town?? Is there a spot in ATL that makes a cocktail that you can only find there that you think we should check out?? I know I would definitely recommend the "Group Hug" over at Pearl Lounge off of Peters St in the Castleberry District. I forget her name but there's a cool young female bartender with dreadlocks that invented the drink. INCREDIBLE!!!
